At the end of the month, all entries will be pooled together, and one lucky winner will be drawn at random. You just need to guess the phrase shown in the image. Get it right and you’ll earn 2 entries into the prize draw. Even if your answer is not correct, you’ll still receive 1 entry just for taking part. At the end of the month, all entries will be pooled together, and one lucky winner will be drawn at random.

The competition started on 1st January 2026 and runs until the end of the month. The final question will be posted on 31st January 2026, with the winner announced here on 1st February 2026. Had the one with the rope wrong. Put ‘learning the ropes’ as that was all AI could come up with as I don’t know many English phrases.

Sally

Yes, phrases and idioms must be the most difficult possible puzzle for a non-native speaker… It’s great that you’re struggling along anyway, good luck 🍀

Missed one day (apple of my eye) then two wrong in a row: these boots are made for walking; if you can’t stand the heat, get out of the kitchen 😱 Obviously on a different wavelength this month

I missed “Apple of my eye” too as the site would not load. I got “Bite the bullet” and ” put your best foot forward” wrong. At least we get one point for a wrong answer. 🙂 🙂

I’m amazed by the amount of people that did seem to get ‘bite the bullet’ right tbh! It was only when I zoomed in really close after seeing what the correct answer was that I realised it looked anything like a bullet (it looked more like a megaphone to me than anything when first answering!) and the rest of the picture bore absolutely no resemblance to the phrase whatsoever, all sunshine and happiness, especially the gleeful expression on the woman’s face which is hardly how you feel when you have to bite the bullet 🙄😏

Member
Paul

The bullet looked more like a cocktail shaker to me.

I had the same problem with Apple of my eye on the 7th, the site would not load

Something is leaving one thing and heading towards something else

Any clues for today’s one? Can’t figure it out.

Look at the differences in the shoes. Which one is at the front.

Member
Khadija

Thanks

One of the shoes looks better than the other

Khadija

Thank you

I wish I had read the clues given before I put my answer which I now realise was the wrong one.

Member
Stuart

Hope I have it right, but a lot of interpretation needed

Member
Andrew

I’m hoping it’s more to do with what is in the shoe than the shoe itself.

still not sure even with peoples clue and AI doesn’t help… EDIT got it now but the whole breakfast thing and sunny morning etc. completely nothing to do with it!!! also not sure why he looks so happy!!!!

Member

I think I got the wrong phrase, as my OH came out with another phrase that fits it more. oh well at least I get a point.

Member
Jackie

Whoops – put the answer here instead of above, hence edit! Busy day…
