September 2026 – Autumn Connections Challenge – Win £10

This Month's Winner Is…
denise
DOB: 25/05/1947
[Claimed]

Every day you will be shown two word clues with a missing link between them, and your challenge is to work out the word that connects them both. The missing word must complete the first word when added to the end, and complete the second when added to the beginning. Some connections will be easy to spot, while others may really make you think. A brand new word challenge, wrapped up in an autumn-themed design, awaits you daily.

All you need to do is work out the missing word that completes both sides of the connection. If your answer correctly completes both sides and creates valid words, you will earn 2 entries into the prize draw. Even if your answer is not correct, you will still receive 1 entry just for taking part. If you find more than one word that correctly fits the puzzle, you are welcome to include them all in your answer, and each valid answer will be accepted as correct. At the end of the month, all entries will be pooled together, and one lucky winner will be drawn at random.

The competition started on 1st September 2026 and runs until the end of the month. The final question will be posted on 30th September 2026, with the winner announced here on 1st October 2026. The winner will then have 24 hours to claim their £10 cash prize. If the prize is not claimed by 11am on 2nd October 2026, it will be forfeited, and no late claims will be accepted.

The picture isn’t loading, I’ve refreshed the page several times but all I’m getting is the upper part of Autumn. Is anyone else having this problem?

Member
Tracy

Sorry, I am not having this problem. I hope it is sorted out soon for you. If this helps, today’s clue is Finger _ _ _ _ _ Out.

You have probably done it already but all I can suggest is the clear your cookies. cache etc. or try a different browser.

Maybe rotate your screen, sometimes different things appear or disappear when changing from landscape to portrait. If you have the zoom function sometimes this can also change what appears.

If you need more technical advice, you may have to ask someone else. 🤷

Me too

And for yesterday’s too, although that wasn’t the obvious answer in hindsight.

And me.

Although you were referring to Bed *time* Line, it worked for yesterday too, Dream *time* Lord.

wood also fits day 20

Member
Alison - The One & Only!

I had honestly forgotten what I put yesterday and work didn’t ring a bell, so I think I put wood too. I’ve been using the “I’ve been asleep since then” excuse far too often recently.

The only good thing about forgetting everything I do is that when I get a parcel through the door, I can’t remember what I ordered, so it’s like Christmas! Then I open it to find a gimmick that doesn’t work, some containers whose lids don’t fit and a smashed ornament, like I said, it’s just like Christmas. 🤣

I can think of 2 different answers.

Clue – Spelt a different way it can be a unit of length.

Clue – It’s a step in a photographer’s process, evidence in a courtroom and bakers need it to make dough rise.

I hope they help 😊

I put meter. Water meter and meter reader

Member
Tracy

I also put water in, but since it fits, we should still get 2 points.

Member
Swaus

“Even if your answer is not correct, you will still receive 1 entry just for taking part.” This is one such day where I just go for a lazy single-entry

Member
Tracy

If your answer fits, it will be taken as correct. Daniel has commented further down that multiple answers are being counted as correct
.

Member
Alison - The One & Only!

That’s the spirit Swaus, you only need one entry to win! 😊 But like Tracy said, it doesn’t have to be the given answer, so you may have got 2 entries anyway.

Member
Our Sally 🙂

None of the answers I can think of for today quite fit 🤔 or at least they do, but one side doesn’t really make a whole word put together, but more of a two-word phrase, and I’ve got a few of those in my head, but none actually make words, full words, for either side…probably a bit too late at 3am to ask for help 😆

Member
Stuart

I didn’t come up with Shake as an answer. Very American

Member
Tracy

I didn’t put Shake either. I had Stand.

Member
Wendy

I put drill as in hand drill and drill down

Member
Our Sally 🙂

I think that might have been what I put. I honestly can’t remember all the three answers I had in my mind yesterday when I wrote my comment 🤷🏻‍♀️

Ugh, my memory. I feel twice my age if I try and think of anything, and three times if I look in the mirror 😱

Member
Susan

I’m feeling my age too our Sally! I tend to lose my thread of thought more frequently these days and struggle for finding the correct words. These games really exercise the brain so thank you Daniel you’re doing us oldies a great service at making our brain work harder and keeping it in better shape than otherwise. .

Member
Hilde

Why is it very American? Asking because I don’t know what else you would call it in the UK?

Member
Stuart

Hi Hilde, not a word i would describe as being frequently used in the UK, whereas frequently used in America especially on TV shows

Member
Our Sally 🙂

I think we would generally just call it a toilet, as that’s what it usually is lol, and we don’t tend to go in for euphemisms especially for basic necessities nearly so much as they do in America. I don’t actually think restroom has any real meaning in the UK, though I could be wrong. They also call it a bathroom in America even when it’s a public toilet and very patently doesn’t incorporate a bath! 😂

Member
Our Sally 🙂

Oh, I just realised you were talking about Shakedown, restroom was ages ago 😵‍💫 the former does feel American to me as well, but I can’t explain why. Now, what was I saying about my memory again?!

Member
RoyalCarp

or Father…..

Member
Stuart

I put both

Member
Hilde

Same. I don’t know about the UK, but in Belgium it’s our Fatherland. Put both since I knew you could put more than one answer.

Member
Julie

I did too

Member
Jackie

Yes, I put father too.

Member
Tracy

I put Father too.

Member
Hilde

In Belgium you can’t use this word anymore. Instead you have to say ‘plus papa’ now.

Member
Alison - The One & Only!

Do you know why? Is it somehow politically incorrect?

Member
Hilde

I had to look it up myself as I just thought it was just another stupid snow flake thing in this modern world. In Dutch a stepdad is called ‘Stiefvader’. Here is the explanation from Google: In Dutch, the prefix stief- historically carried a heavy, sad meaning. Centuries ago, stief- came from an old Germanic word meaning “bereaved” or “orphaned”. It was used when a biological parent died and a new spouse came into the family. Over generations, fairytales like Cinderella and Snow White popularised the trope of the “wicked stepmother” (de boze stiefmoeder).Because of this, the word stief started… Read more »

Alison - The One & Only!

Thanks Hilde, I have a stepmother, technically, but I feel it implies she replaced my mum and did her marital duty of bringing me up, so I feel uncomfortable saying it, I prefer to introduce her as my dad’s wife, so without even realising, I was feeling those negative connotations.

Thanks for finding that out, it makes total sense.

Member
Our Sally 🙂

Oh, we definitely have the wicked stepmother trope here as well. I really like the sound of plus-mama or plus-papa though (and mama and papa are just nice and cuddly compared to mum and dad on their own!), and it’s a great definition you give it. I think that would be reassuring if the previous father is still around, of course, for him as well 🙂 God that reminds me. I was alone from the time I had my son. His father had been no good and even though we had been living together for a year and a half… Read more »

I put REST for day 9…

Member
Alison - The One & Only!

I put both ball and rest.

Rest was just as valid as ball in my opinion Hilde, you should have received 2 entries because without the usual picture clue to direct us to a ball or someone having a rest, your answer was 100% correct.

Member
Jackie

I put BATH

Member
Alison - The One & Only!

Oh wow! That’s brilliant Jacky, they’re so good! I can’t believe I didn’t think of them.

This proves my point, I thought I had it covered with two plausible answers, I had no idea that there were actually THREE plausible answers.

If we don’t have a picture clue, or are told the number of plausible answers, how do we know when we have finished guessing? I just thought of “Foot LOCKER Room”.

To think I dropped out of Predicting the Future School after not winning the Lotto, when I should have put those classes to good use here! 🤣🤣

Member
Dawn

I put rest as well and thought was right and that there would be complaints about it being an American term. But, aren’t all the words supposed to form one whole word? I just checked and the all do except fish bowl but I suppose if you are referring to fishbowl lens, it is a complete word. I don’t know if locker would work in the context of one complete word.

Member
Alison - The One & Only!

Hi Dawn, it’s not one complete word, the word you add needs to finish the word on the left, for example, foot ‘ball’ and start the word on the right – ‘ball’ room, it isn’t foot ball room, I understand that I have written it like that, but it was just me being lazy and not writing it twice, so – Football & Ballroom Footrest & Restroom Footbath & Bathroom You may be right about footlocker & locker room, because I am not sure if it counts due to locker room being two separate words, or that Footlocker is a… Read more »

REST ROOM more of an American word, but there have been a few examples of American words on comps on here, so why not. Perfectly valid.

Member
Alison - The One & Only!

Peter, you have just reminded me of a cringful teenage moment, on my first day at a new job.

Whilst showing me around the offices, my male team leader tried to delicately ask “Would you like me to show you where the cloakroom is?” I replied “No, I’ll just put my coat on the back of my chair”. I was actually confused, it was July and I wasn’t wearing a coat! 🤣🤣 We never spoke of that day again.

Member
Stuart

Surprisingly.

I have thought of 4 for today (10th), hopefully from stirring into my crystal ball and trying to get into the mind of the question setter I have selected the correct answer 😊

Makes you wonder how all the answers people provide or being checked to make sure they get the entries for being right or wrong??? 🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔

Member
Tracy

I think there is only one answer for today.

Member
Stuart

Hi Tracy there are at least 5 I can think of off the top of my head.

Member
Alison - The One & Only!

It was so much better for me to come back yesterday, when I first looked I could not get “super” out of my head as in superbowl, but star super ? 🤔 And the fact it was 5 letters, but hours later, the second I looked at it I saw “fish”.

I don’t know today’s yet either, so I’ll come back, but if anyone has any clues as a back up, it would be appreciated. 😊

Member
Alison - The One & Only!

Got it! If anyone needs a clue: We all have one.

Member
Stuart

Just to multiple 4 letter words that go with guard. Your bound to put the answer they are looking for. 😂🤣

Can’t believe we have to get into the mind of the question answerer to make sure we put the exact answer they are thinking of, even if its a wrong answer…..

Member
Alison - The One & Only!

You don’t need to get in their mind Stuart, Daniel said anything that works is correct, like “News FLASH Back”, the answer they put up is just one possibility, but they will accept anything which makes sense.

Just chill, 🧘 it’s all good! 🙂

Member
Our Sally 🙂

Sorry Alison but for once I disagree – he literally said you have to guess what they have chosen rather than accepting anything that fits and works unfortunately 😕

Member
Alison - The One & Only!

Ok, I hold my hands up Sally! I’ve just read through the replies again and I obviously skimmed them before without reading them properly.

Sorry Stuart, you were right. I agree, this comp is stupid, how are we supposed to know we have got to keep thinking of additional answers because there could be one or seven.

Do we have to add them all at the same time, or can we come back later and submit another word we’ve just thought of?

We can’t even help other players because we may be right, but it’s the wrong right. 🙄

Member
Sarah

Yesterday I put Flash 🤷

Member
Alison - The One & Only!

I never thought if that, it’s a really good answer!

Member
Hilde

I did too

Member
Tracy

Daniel has written below that if you have multiple answers for a word, you can include them all.

Member
Stuart

No explanation if you put one and its works yet its not listed as being the correct answer though. 🤔

If I can think of one word I’m going to put that and not think if there might be another 2 or 3 answers that also fit?

Member
Our Sally 🙂

I have put comments further down which have been downvoted 🙁 but Daniel HAS said that if you put one that fits but it isn’t the one they have chosen it doesn’t count! I think this is really unfair, and the only way to get every possible answer is to use some sort of crossword solver website which takes the fun out of it I think, but that obviously isn’t a popular opinion 🤷🏻‍♀️ Edit: just to add that he put that about having to guess which one they have chosen us the correct answer a couple of days in,… Read more »

Member
Hilde

From what I understand from that is that you can put as many answers as you want that fit, but only the one they had chosen counts as the correct one for 2 points/entries.

Member
Stuart

Embarrasing, its sometime hard enough thinking of an answer and then you have the jeopardy of if its the right answer and do you need to think of another.

I’ve put 5 answers to cover myself today 8th 😥

Member
phil

at least i’m not the only one that put fore

Member
Lostkiwi

Had several answers for the 4th but didn’t put the same one as Daniel. I put ‘hand’ as in underhand and handover. Will definitely put all the answers I think fit from now on!!

Member
Pamela Hamby

I too put the same as you

Member
Susan

I put hand too

Member
Marilyn Lancaster

I did the same.

Member
Alison - The One & Only!

I put “hand” then read Daniel’s message, so I refreshed and entered again writing “take”, “hand” and “pass”. Not sure if that counted, but it’s not that important, you only need one entry to win. 😊

Stuart

Put Pass

Member
Tracy

I put pass too.

Member
Hilde

I also put pass. I think it counts as well.

I put pass
