Sally

Congratulations Sally.a lovely late birthday surprise.
Congrats Sally, hope its our regular that comments, dont forget to claim 😁👍
Is that our Sally?
Hurry up and claim it Sally, well done!
I don’t think it is the forum’s Sally as she is in her late 30s. 😔 Unless there are two Sallys masquerading as one. 😀
Yes, I think you are right, I’m pretty sure she is younger than me, unless she lies about her age, nah! Women never do that! 😂
Hopefully this Sally will claim in time! 🤞
Haha and there was me about to ask your rough age or generation again, this’ll be the third time I think – not much point now, I know you’ll be lying even if you answer! 😈 🤣
I wouldn’t lie about my age, lol. Early 50s, OMG! That number looks so big when you right it down.
I did reply somewhere to you about my age, I missed the first time you must have asked, you must have missed my reply, oh well, third time lucky 😊
Awww you’re right defairmans – I was looking for a claim button and wondering if maybe I needed to email or something instead but really excited and scrolled down to look at the comments as I always do…and when I saw yours I scrolled back up and I don’t know how I missed that part except like we were saying recently Alison, there just aren’t many Sally’s about so I did think it was me 😟 I remember a Sally did make some comments at sometime but wasn’t around for long, just a couple I think but I made the… Read more »
Grudging congratulations 🤣 she didn’t even claim! I think it should go to you, to be fair.
Well you can always update your name from your profile page. You won’t have to wonder if it is really me who has won now 🤣🤣
PS. Yes, I remember Chesney Hawkes being played in the night clubs, now that’s showing my age! 🤣🤣.
Although I did start clubbing at 15, those were the days, girls were never ID’d. Except for the only time I was, when it was 2 months AFTER I turned 18 and didn’t think I needed it. 🤣
Worth it all to have you called me “our Sally” Alison 🤗 I’ll take that over a tenner any day! I’m very isolated in real life (in fact I have severe depression and anxiety, currently pretty much suicidal tbph and rarely leave my bedroom, let alone the house) & as I’ve said before I don’t use social media or any of those things or even comment on other sites (though I have been known to lurk lol), this is quite literally the only one. So you saying that really made my week/month/year, thank you 🥰 I started off only leaving… Read more »
Sorry to hear that, Sally. I know how you feel. I have the same. It’s a monster of a life sometimes. You always have friends here to chat to, if you need. 🧡💚💜
Wow! There’s too many of us on here who struggle with life, I don’t leave my house very often, the physical energy is often too much.
Try to focus on the things you can control and the things you do have, you might just have something that others can only dream of.
Sally & Defairmans, you’re both in my thoughts and Tracy too. ❤️
Very true, Alison-the One & Only! 🥰🥰
Bless you Defairmans, 😊❤️ but feel free to just call me Alison 😁 I hope Sally changes her name, you on the other hand, I can honestly say I’ve never met a Defairmans before, so I’m hoping to see your name up there soon. ❤️
Good luck, everyone. I wonder what tomorrow will bring in the way of games.
Hopefully a bullet proof competition, that doesn’t involve incorrect answers 😁
Unlikely on this site!
Come on people I want to see a name I know! Good luck!
Hardly ANY of the answers were anything to do with “Summer, sunshine and everything the warmer months have to offer”-so why state that in the first place? Bit annoying!!
Yes, I agree. Who would be playing video games when the sun is shining and it is hot outside?
Lots of people unfortunately, I was just having this conversation yesterday with colleagues and the amount of children that just want to sit and play Video games all day is really worrying.
@Stuart – as it’s the last day, I’m going to give you the benefit of the doubt and assume you didn’t see my challenge to work out the summer connection for day 16 and 17 below but I would love to hear your workings out before this competition disappears 😁 And I’ll add in today’s – here’s some facts Google Lens told me about Rapture (goodness knows I wouldn’t have had a clue without looking it up!): Quick Facts About Rapture Setting: An underwater dystopian city located at the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean. Creator: Founded by the fictional character… Read more »
Can’t see them Sally 😢
The 16th – The rapidly warming summer climate is causing large scale wildfires across the Arctic not widely reported
The 17th – Isaac Newton is connected to fire through a famous legend about his dog, Diamond, his dog apparently knocked over a candle which burnt years of notes and scientific research. Some say Issac wasn’t best pleased in fact he was flaming angry 😜
Oh Stuart those are fantastic 🤣 and both things I didn’t know and are interesting so thank you so much for answering 👍
Though as Jacky writes above the description states “Summer, sunshine and everything the warmer months have to offer” so perhaps a bit of a stretch lol – tell me, ARE you a cryptic crossword setter in real life?!
I had no idea about today’s answer, the 30th, as I am not a video game player.
Me neither, I hadn’t even heard of the 4 answers! What ever happened to Astroids, Combat and Space Invaders. 🤣 Bring back the Atari, there was nothing more exciting that finding out how to get double bullets on Space Invaders! 🤣
My OH said it was finding the BFG in Doom that he, along with everyone else who played it, I think, was the best. I loved playing on the Atari we had many years ago.
Kids think it’s all about graphics, but they should appreciate that we loved those games before we knew what graphics even meant 🤣 80s children were so much easier to please 🤣
DAY 24 – correct answer is CHINA!
Oh yes the trick question…….
But wait no its not is it.
I put China as well as ITS THE CORRECT ANSWER!
Good job I’ve not got the potential to win Millions on here and its a bit of fun 😂😃
Agree, I like most of the competitions and mainly the comments, and definitely wouldn’t spend all this time on here for the sake of the very unlikely chance of me winning a tenner lol – wrong answers when they have happened so many times and nobody ever comes on to say sorry, explain or change it though 🫤 that actually would be nice, especially when now are a flurry of comments about the same thing as has happened on many occasions
Yes, I put that too.
Agreed, if you think of it now, sushi is Japanese, but it specifically asked who “invented” sushi, which is China, not Japan.
Seeing as we have no idea which direction we should take and both answers are technically correct, China should not have been an option and A should have been Singapore or something. It’s crickets all over again! 🤣
Hi hornetcarp. Thanks for pointing this out! There are actually two accepted interpretations. The earliest form of sushi originated in ancient China as a fermented fish preservation method, while the sushi we know and eat today was developed in Japan. Our intention was to refer to modern sushi, so we used Japan as the answer. We’ll try and make future questions more specific to avoid any confusion. Both China and Japan are accepted as the correct answer in this case. Thanks, Daniel.
Yay Daniel, you answered! 👏 Although probably a bit late for most people to see…but thank you 🙂
Something tells me we won’t get an answer to this one lol, but how about the thing where so many of these questions had absolutely naff all to do with Summer..? 😂
24th. The connection is be very careful of bacterial growth in raw foods especially in summer heat temperatures
I put China as it originated there 2000 yrs ago to keep fish fresh, I’ll take a point 🙂
I was about to put Japan but then I checked, and apparently the correct answer is China.
Yes….
Disappointing as I thought Japan straightaway as well, but then thought it couldn’t be that obvious.
Daniel if you are reading this you need to be more transparent please
I agree completely Stuart – I was disappointed that I thought I had a full run for once on both these conversations until that one has come up and spoilt it, and so frustratingly when it’s not because I got made a mistake but because the given answer is wrong, and then with all the comments about it it’s just kinda sad that nobody rectifies it
*competitions, obviously – noticed too late to edit! 🤦🏻♀️🤪

Oh it wasn’t me that pointed it out, to be honest I didn’t even notice! It was many, many other people and I just replied – but as above, thank you for clarifying and even more for saying you will make them less ambiguous in the future 👍
Stuart, can you think of a cryptic connection to summer for Instagram and 1984?!? I’ve thought and thought but I admit defeat, it’s baffled me 🤯😳🫠😂
There was some hot weather during the summer of 1984, like just about every other summer though. For Instagram; ‘burbn’ is almost like ‘burn’. There you go, two mysteries solved. 😁
Beat me to it Paul.
Well done 😁
I don’t know about all of the other questions irrelevant to heat or the summer though.
Definitely with the Instagram thing I think – not quite sure he got there with 1984, and I would love your explanation to go alongside it! 😁 So that’s a challenge, if you will accept it lol – I’m really not sure there is a non-iffy one to be found… 😉 Edit: having just looked up at all the previous questions, I’m going to add in Day 16 and 17 as well for the challenge, out of all the slightly dubious ones they are two more I can’t work out any connection to summer or heat or sculpture or anything… Read more »
Hahaha ok I think your connection with 1984 is a bit iffy, as I think do you really! 😉 But I take your second one, I had read it more like the drink bourbon so really wouldn’t have got that but then I was scratching my head so much about 1984 and having read the book multiple times I’m still I’m afraid searching for a connection there, and then when I turned to Instagram my cryptic crossword solving brain had gone to mush 🫠😆 Odd name for them to choose though, either way they intended it to be read? I’m… Read more »
Oh yeah of course, both of my explanations were iffy. I was just being really flippant, as always, not serious at all.
Don’t worry Paul, I could see that and thought it was funny – somebody took you seriously though!
I knew Day 19 right away because I was sick as a child and the doctor came to the house and put a thermometer under my arm. When he wasn’t looking I took it out and then dropped it on the tiled floor. The glass broke and the mercury spilled out. I thought it was fascinating as the liquid could be pushed back together from tiny drops into a big ball of liquid. The doctor was angry and pretty much slapped me away from the mercury.
And so he should! Dangerous stuff, not to be messed with!
When I was a child, a thermometer was accidentally dropped onto my plate of food, which was hastily disposed of. The small droplets were fighting their way through the gravy, trying to coagulate; it was, as you say, fascinating.
When I think of the scorching summer, 🌞 the first thing that comes mind is Roman Numerals, especially the letter… number ‘L’, it just makes me feel incredibly hot, it reminds me of laying on a beach 😎, book 📖 in one hand, an ice cold drink 🍹in the other, whilst listening to the waves 🌊 crashing against the shore 🏖️. Don’t you agree? 🤣🤣
😂😂😂😂😂
I actually missed this day somehow, but would have known it straight away from cryptic crosswords and was annoyed that I missed it when I wouldn’t have had to look it up, typical!
And it never even occurred to me how odd it was in context of the competition until I read your post, but some of these have been very strange for a summer-related supposed quiz 🤨🤪
It’s nice to have a bit of fun, I couldn’t resist yesterday, especially after the 🧠☀️=🥵 thread 🤣🤣
Rome is really hot this time of the year 🤣😂
Wow Stuart, if that’s the reason that clue was given then that’s some quite convoluted thinking going on – I get the feeling either you or Daniel must be a cryptic crossword setter yourselves in real life 🤣
🤣🤣
Day 13 easiest ever. I was born there 😀
I thought that was the right answer, I had to check though?
Is it a nice city Hilde?
It’s alright. It’s a bit dangerous these days. Too much violence now. It used to be really nice. I used to go shopping there as a teen with friends or as a child with my mum. There’s a zoo there which is really nice as well. I was just there last May visiting family.
Saddened to hear about the violence and the fact is more dangerous these days than it used to be 😟 I found it interesting though, because the way politicians talk – of all parties really, now I think of it – you would think that Britain is the only developed country that has that problem, that it is specific to here and they never talk about it being a problem in I assume many countries around Europe and elsewhere, apart from the war in Ukraine obviously but that’s not really the kind of violence you were talking about (US excepted;… Read more »
There’s loads of stabbings these days, like elsewhere in the UK I suppose. My family doesn’t even dare going to Antwerp anymore. They live in a village about 20km away from the city but I went by train so ended up in Antwerp city where i had to walk a bit to take a local bus to the village. I’m not as scared as my family because the chances of me getting stabbed are quite slim to be honest. I’m usually invisible to most people LOL
After so many competitions where you’ve said you felt rather left behind because they were based on English idioms or other word puzzles that would be extremely difficult for someone who speaks it as a second language (even as well as you evidently do) I felt genuinely happy for you that you got a question where you knew the answer immediately – I for one had to look it up, and I suspect I wasn’t alone lol – even if it was only a single one! 😀
I have had to look up a few, or ask my OH, as he is better educated than I am. 🙂 🙂
What on earth has today’s question/answer got to do with Summer and sunshine?
Summer Scorcher is just the name of this month’s game. So not all the questions will be about summer and sunshine.
Thats not what it says in the introduction-it says all answers are connected/inspired by the sun, and summer-hence my question as to why Brain was yesterday’s answer!! Same with today’question-what has blood types got to do with Summer and the sun?
It says “Seasonal Trivia”. Your brain can get overheated or cooked in this heat.
🧠☀️ = 🥵 🤣🤣
Oh, whatever, it’s too hot to argue about it!! If you think brains and blood types are seasonal, we’ll just have to agree to disagree, but I think Admin have slipped up with this one-good job the answers are easy to find, because the description of the clues is totally misleading-though it’s hard to care that much for the sake of £10!!!
This weather has been so hot, I needed to purchase personal fans for my heart, lung, brain and liver! Apparently only one lung though, 🤔 the other one actually likes the sun. 🤨 You should see the shapes my hubby’s had to pull to ensure he shades everything but my right lung, especially during hot yoga🧘♀️
That is my best guess as to why it counts. I assume it’s the same reason for everyone. 🤣🤣
Hahaha Alison – tell your husband he needs to do a better job, I think the sun may have got to you a touch despite his best efforts! 😜
I think you might be right! 🥵
When I looked up the answer to yesterday’s question, it said 2 for the First and Second World Wars. So what was the third one? As it said, the third one was due to the Spanish flu epidemic.
I used Google Lens to look up that answer but didn’t really read the explanation tbh so I’ve just looked again and this is what it says: According to historical records, the cancelled years were: •1916: Cancelled due to World War I (scheduled for Berlin, Germany). •1940: Cancelled due to World War II (originally scheduled for Tokyo, Japan, then moved to Helsinki, Finland). •1944: Cancelled due to World War II (scheduled for London, United Kingdom). While the 2020 Tokyo Olympics were also disrupted, they were postponed until 2021 rather than cancelled. Additionally, Winter Olympic Games were cancelled in 1940 and… Read more »
Those were the same 3 I was told, sorry Tracy, but you only need one entry to win. 😊
I went back, and the same site said 6 times, so I checked again, and it confirmed the 3. I have no idea why one of the listings was saying something different each time.
The internet is full of right and wrong answers, because people are full of right and wrong answers. They say a chain is only as strong as it’s weakest link, well, the internet is only as smart as it’s stupidest person. 🤣
Dont expect the answers to be correct on this site!
The answer was right here. It was me who was wrong, and the site I checked gave the wrong answer twice, and it was 2 different wrong answers.
I asked Google AI and it said 3 and it was 3 world wars (1, 2, 2)
Congratulations on last month’s winners, and good luck to everyone for this month’s games.
Good luck folks for July games. 🤞👍
Congratulations to Heather. Well done for winning.
Good luck to everyone for July
